Field Measurements of Tree Dynamics with Accelerometers

A comprehensive understanding of the dynamic behavior a tree can play key role in stability analysis. Indeed, through an engineering approach, living be modeled as mechanical system and monitored observing its properties. In current work, procedures identification used civil are applied to case study black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.). The was instrumented with 13 seismic, high-sensitivity accelerometers. Time histories response under ambient vibration were recorded. Three representative sections trunk (the collar, diameter at breast height, fork) equipped three accelerometers, order obtain lateral torsional vibrations. Moreover, two pairs accelerometers fixed on main branches. results show that it is possible identify natural frequencies vibrations, thanks also support preliminary finite element model. Even though optimal position fork, sensors height allow clear peaks frequency domain.
